Attend Tomorrow's Screening of Acclaimed PBS Documentary
You’re invited to the screening of the PBS
documentary, Parrot Confidential, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 25 in Washington, D.C.! As part of the Environmental Film
Festival, the film will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker (and our
National Bird Day collaborator), Allison Argo of Argo Films.
Confidential follows the story of one unfortunate parrot named Lou, who was
abandoned in a foreclosed home. Though Lou was lucky to be rescued, he and thousands
of other birds face an uncertain future of rehabilitation, resocialization, and
rehoming. The acclaimed 2013 documentary explores the
challenges of owning parrots, how breeders and owners become bird rescuers, and
conservation efforts taking place around the world.

the U.S., the unregulated domestic breeding, selling, and trading of exotic
birds has resulted in an influx of unwanted, abused, and abandoned birds in
shelters and rescue facilities.
January 5, Born Free USA, along with the Avian Welfare Coalition, celebrated
the 12th annual National Bird Day with access to Allison’s documentary
right from our National Bird Day website. National Bird Day
is a day of action to raise awareness of the plight of birds in captivity and
in the wild. Our National Bird Day campaign focuses on educating the public to
discourage the purchase of birds as pets; improving standards of care for
captive birds; stopping the international trade in wild birds; and protecting
birds in the wild. However, National Bird Day is not just a day; we strive to consistently
shine a spotlight on issues critical to the protection and survival of birds,
both captive and wild, through our work with the exotic pet trade.
Watch Lou’s story tomorrow on the big
screen, and learn about all birds, wild and caged, at www.nationalbirdday.org.
